Emotional Type

Well the new semester is in full swing and I just got back the first project that I had in my typography class. We had to write our name using our font choice and the layout of the text to express ideas. The rules were :

• we had to use an existing font
• we couldn't alter the fonts structure (warp it, twist it, etc.)
• we couldn't add any graphics
• we had to use the rectangle size provided
  
• we could only use black & white
  
• what we turned in had to be hand drawn.

What I'm showing you are the designs I created using Adobe Illustrator. After this step I traced all of these onto drawing paper with black pen. It was a very challenging but I think I did pretty well. This class is going to be tricky though. It is my toughest one yet. Doing the drawing by hand is one of my weaknesses. That's one of the reasons I have loved learning to create things on the computer. I Keep plugging away at it though and my skills are improving, which is really the point of taking a class.

Our next project takes this idea a step further using 5 words that we chose. I'm still working on that one but I'll post it when I'm done.

Contest Results

Well unfortunately I didn't win the photoshop contest. I'm glad I entered though and I'm sure I'll try again. I thought It would bother me if I didn't win but actually it just made me want to learn more. The winners were really amazing and I would love to be able to create things like that.
